Pictory AI Review and Pictory AI Pricing Per Video Ad

Pictory turns scripts, articles and slides into narrated stock-footage video, with 200 video minutes for $29 a month. Avatars and generated clips run on a separate AI credit balance: a 30-second generated clip costs about $14.50 on monthly Starter and $1.75 on annual Professional. Trustpilot shows 4.2 from 656 reviews, 66% five-star and 18% one-star, and every fee is non-refundable.

Pictory is a good, cheap tool for turning words into narrated stock-footage video and an expensive way to make video ads with a person on camera. Its plans give 200 to 1,800 video minutes a month from $25, but AI avatars and generated clips run on a separate credit balance: a 30-second generated clip costs about $14.50 on monthly Starter and $1.75 on annual Professional. Trustpilot shows 4.2 from 656 reviews, 66% five-star and 18% one-star, and Pictory's terms make every fee non-refundable.

We read Pictory's pricing page, its API pricing page, its terms of service and its Trustpilot profile on 3 October 2026. This review is written for a marketer or agency about to pay for Pictory to make video ads. It covers what an ad really costs once you split video minutes from AI credits, which numbers on Pictory's own pricing page disagree with each other, the clauses worth reading before you pay for a year, and who should buy it instead of what we sell.

The rating is healthy for this category, and the shape is better than most AI video tools we have reviewed. Two thirds five-star with a fifth one-star is a product that does its main job well and has a billing and support problem around the edges. Compare JoggAI at 64% one-star or Arcads, where one-star reviews outnumber five-star ones.

What Pictory actually does

Pictory turns material you already have into a narrated video. You paste a script, a blog post URL, a PDF or a PowerPoint, and it splits the text into scenes, matches each one with clips from a library of about 18 million Getty Images and Storyblocks videos, adds an AI voiceover and captions, and exports in landscape, vertical or square up to 1080p. It also edits recorded video by editing the transcript, cuts highlights from long recordings and translates videos.

Over the past year it has added generative tools on top: AI avatars, custom avatars and voice cloning on Professional and above, plus generated images and video clips. Those run on AI credits, a second allowance separate from the video minutes, and that split is the most important thing to understand before you buy it for ads.

How much does Pictory cost?

Pictory costs $29 a month for Starter, $59 for Professional and $199 for Team on monthly billing, or $25, $35 and $119 a month billed yearly, read on 3 October 2026. Team starts at three users and Enterprise, from ten users, is quoted. A 14-day free trial gives 15 video minutes, a 5-minute cap per video and 720p export.

Professional$59$420600500 a month
Team$199$1,4281,8002,400 a month
EnterpriseQuotedQuotedCustomCustom

Annual plans list their allowances per year: 2,400, 7,200 and 21,600 minutes, which is the same 200, 600 and 1,800 a month, and 1,200, 12,000 and 28,800 AI credits. Divide those and one plan stands out. Annual Professional grants 12,000 credits a year, or 1,000 a month, twice what the monthly Professional plan gives, for 59 percent of the price. Pictory labels the $35 price an exclusive Pictory 2.0 offer, so treat it as a promotion that may not last.

The save up to 40 percent badge is true on two plans of three

The annual toggle says save up to 40 percent. Divided out, Professional saves 40.7 percent ($35 against $59) and Team saves 40.2 percent ($119 against $199). Starter saves 13.8 percent ($25 against $29). The badge is honest about the maximum, but a solo buyer on Starter gets a third of the discount the headline suggests.

The API pricing page has the same pattern in reverse. It says save up to 24 percent on annual billing, and its only self-serve plan is $99 a month or $79 a month billed yearly, a saving of 20.2 percent. There is no plan on the page that saves 24.

What a 30-second video ad costs in Pictory credits

Pictory's own plan cards translate credits into output: 100 credits buy about one minute of generated video or about three minutes of avatar video. So a 30-second generated clip is about 50 credits and a 30-second avatar clip is about 17. Stock-footage video does not use credits at all; it comes out of video minutes.

Plan and billingCents a credit30s avatar30s generated
Starter, monthly29.0$4.83$14.50
Starter, yearly25.0$4.17$12.50
Professional, monthly11.8$1.97$5.90
Professional, yearly3.5$0.58$1.75
Team, monthly8.3$1.38$4.15
Team, yearly5.0$0.83$2.48

Two things follow. On monthly Starter, the credit balance buys two generated 30-second clips a month, which is not a test budget for paid social. And per credit, annual Professional is the cheapest seat Pictory sells, cheaper than Team. As with every AI video tool, nobody ships the first render, so multiply by the three to five attempts a usable ad usually takes.

The Team plan costs more than three Professional seats

Team starts at three users. Billed yearly it costs $1,428 for 21,600 minutes and 28,800 credits a year. Three annual Professional seats cost $1,260 for the same 21,600 minutes and 36,000 credits. On those numbers Team charges $168 a year more for 7,200 fewer credits, and the card does not say whether added seats cost extra, so the gap may be wider. On monthly billing the order flips: Team at $199 gives 2,400 credits a month against 1,500 for three Professional seats at $177.

What Team adds is a shared workspace, ten brand kits instead of five, 100 GB of storage and onboarding and training. That is governance, not capacity. It is the same pattern we found at Higgsfield, HeyGen and JoggAI, where the business tier costs more per unit than the individual plan at the top of the ladder.

Three numbers on the pricing page that disagree with each other

The plan cards and the comparison table below them do not match. The annual comparison table lists AI credits as 100 for Starter, 500 or 1,000 for Professional and 800 per user for Team, while the annual cards say 1,200, 12,000 and 28,800 a year. The monthly table gives Starter 200 credits, while the monthly card says 100. ElevenLabs voice minutes for Team read 240 a month on the card and up to 420 in the monthly table. Even the customer count varies: the page says trusted by over 20,000 companies and, further down, 24k customers.

None of these is a reason to avoid Pictory, but they matter if credits are why you are buying. Screenshot the card for the plan you pick before you pay, and check the balance in your account on day one.

Is Pictory legit? What the terms say

Pictory is a legitimate, long-running US company, and its terms are clearer than most in this category. Five clauses matter to an ad buyer.

  • Refunds. All fees are non-refundable unless the law or a separate written agreement says otherwise. Cancelling stops renewal and keeps access to the end of the period, so an annual plan is a full-year commitment.
  • Ownership. Pictory claims no ownership of what you upload, and the videos you make, which it calls Pictoried Content, are treated as your content.
  • Training. Pictory says it will not use your content to train machine learning models unless you agree in writing. Several avatar vendors we reviewed take a broad training licence, so this is a real point in its favor.
  • Stock footage. Getty and Storyblocks clips come with a non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use them inside your Pictory videos, without ownership, and you may not use them as part of a logo or brand identifier. Any other advertiser can run the same clip.
  • Disputes. Washington law, binding arbitration under the American Arbitration Association, and the winning side recovers its costs and fees.

What Pictory reviews complain about

The one-star reviews on Trustpilot cluster around three things: renewals and cancellations that customers did not expect, renders that fail or show no video after editing work, and support that answers billing or technical problems with generic replies. The five-star reviews mostly praise speed and the script-to-video workflow, which is the part Pictory has been building longest.

One smaller signal worth knowing about: when we read the API pricing page on 3 October 2026, its case study block showed a template, with key results under the heading Case study XXXXXXX and a quote attributed to [Name Placeholder], [Title], [Company Name]. It says nothing about the product, but it does say something about how carefully the sales pages are kept, which is consistent with the pricing table mismatches above.

Is Pictory worth it? Who should buy it

Pictory is worth it if most of your video is not advertising. A learning and development team turning slide decks into training videos, a content team turning every article into a YouTube or LinkedIn video, or a course creator cutting webinars into lessons will get a lot for $25 to $35 a month. Enterprise adds SCORM export and interactive video hosting, so finished training videos can go straight into a corporate learning management system with quizzes and completion tracking. For that work, 200 minutes of narrated video for $29 is a price no presenter-led tool comes close to.

If you do buy it, buy annual Professional while the $35 offer runs. It is the cheapest credit on the ladder by a wide margin, it includes custom avatars and voice cloning, and it doubles the AI credits of the monthly plan.

Who should buy something else

Buy something else if the job is paid social ads with a person on camera. Pictory starts from your script and fills it with stock footage, which reads as an explainer in a feed, and its avatars sit on the smallest allowance on the plan. You still write every hook yourself.

That is the job AdsGen is built for, and we are the ones selling it, so weigh this accordingly. You paste a product URL and get a batch of 9:16 UGC-style ads with presenters, hooks and burned-in captions, up to 20 variations across 6 angles per product, on plans from $49 a month billed yearly. We do not make training videos, landscape video or blog-to-video content, so if that is most of your work, Pictory is the better buy. Our Pictory alternative page compares the two side by side, and if you want another script-led tool instead, our InVideo AI alternative and Synthesia alternative pages cover the closest swaps.

Pictory AI review FAQ

Is Pictory AI free?

No, but it has a 14-day free trial with 15 video minutes, a 5-minute cap per video, 720p export and a small AI credit allowance. After that the cheapest plan is Starter at $29 a month or $25 a month billed yearly, read on 3 October 2026.

Can you use Pictory videos for commercial use?

Yes. Pictory's terms treat the videos you create as your content and claim no ownership of them. The stock footage inside is licensed non-exclusively for use within your Pictory videos, so you do not own those clips, other advertisers can use them, and they cannot form part of a logo or brand identifier.

How much is Pictory per month?

Pictory is $29 a month for Starter, $59 for Professional and $199 for Team on monthly billing, or $25, $35 and $119 a month billed yearly. Annual plans are charged for the full year up front and are non-refundable, so the real commitment on annual Professional is $420.

Does Pictory have an API?

Yes. The self-serve API plan costs $99 a month for 600 video minutes, or $79 a month billed yearly for 7,200 minutes a year, and works with Make, Zapier and n8n. An enterprise API plan has a one-time setup fee and bills actual minutes used each month.

Does Pictory make vertical videos for TikTok and Reels?

Yes. Every plan exports landscape 16:9, portrait 9:16 and square 1:1, up to 1080p on paid plans and 720p on the trial. The format is there; whether stock-footage video works as a TikTok or Reels ad is a creative question, and presenter-led UGC formats usually hold attention better in those feeds.
