Opus Clip review, OpusClip pricing and is it worth it for video ads
The short answer
OpusClip (Opus Clip) is an AI clipping tool: you import a long video, it picks the best moments, reframes them to 9:16, 1:1 or 16:9, adds animated captions and can schedule the posts. In September 2026 it sells Starter at $15 a month for 150 credits (monthly only), Pro at $29 a month or $14.50 billed yearly ($174) for 300 credits a month, and custom Business plans. One credit is one minute of source video. Since about 28 September annual Pro credits arrive 300 a month with two months of rollover instead of 3,600 at once. It holds 4.0 on Trustpilot from 499 reviews, 63 percent five-star and 20 percent one-star. It is worth it for anyone who records podcasts, webinars or streams; it is the wrong tool for a brand that needs UGC-style ads and has no footage.
Most people searching for an Opus Clip review already know what it does. They have a podcast, a webinar library or a founder who talks well on camera, and they want to know whether Pro is worth the money, what a credit really buys, and what happens to their projects if they stop paying. Marketers ask a second question: can it make the paid ads we need?
This review answers both with numbers read off the OpusClip pricing page and its plan settings, its help centre, its API limits, the Agent Opus pricing page, its terms of service (effective 17 November 2025), Trustpilot, Capterra and the App Store on 29 September 2026.
One note on what we are: AdsGen makes UGC-style video ads from a product URL, so we overlap with OpusClip only where a marketer wants ads. For clipping footage you own, OpusClip is the stronger product, and the section on where it wins says so plainly.

Our verdict
3.7/5
Worth it if you own long-form video and want shorts from it, especially on annual Pro. Not the tool to buy if you need ads and have no footage.
OpusClip finds the strongest moments in a long video, reframes them to vertical and captions them, at one credit per minute of source footage. On annual Pro that is 4.83 cents a minute, so a 45-minute podcast costs about $2.17 to clip. It does not make an ad out of a product page: that needs Agent Opus, a separate generator on the same credit balance, where a 30-second Premium clip costs 210 credits, about $20 at the monthly Pro rate. Since late September annual credits arrive 300 a month rather than 3,600 up front, fees are not prorated or refunded, and 20 percent of its 499 Trustpilot reviews are one-star.

How OpusClip scores, category by category
Clipping and captions
4.4The core product is strong on a clean single-speaker recording: sensible clip picks, good auto reframing and accurate animated captions. Multi-speaker conversations produce fewer keepers.
Making ads from nothing
2.5OpusClip only rearranges footage that exists. New video comes from Agent Opus, a separate generator where a 30-second Premium clip costs 210 credits.
Value for money
4.1Annual Pro at 4.83 cents a source minute is cheap for anyone with hours of recordings. Starter at 10 cents a minute with no annual option is the poor rung.
Pricing clarity
3.2The pricing page is public and the tooltips explain credits, but annual delivery changed in late September and the help centre still describes the old upfront pool.
Billing and refunds
3.0Renewal is at the then-current non-promotional rate, there are no prorated refunds, and projects go dark 3 days after a plan lapses. A narrow 14-day project credit refund exists on Pro.
Rights and terms
3.6Paid plans may be used commercially and your ownership of uploads is untouched, but the free plan is personal and non-commercial only, and the terms never state who owns outputs.

In depth
The OpusClip review in full
Is Opus Clip worth it? Yes, if you already have the footage
OpusClip is worth paying for when your raw material is long video: a weekly podcast, recorded webinars, livestreams, a founder who records long talks. It watches the whole thing, picks moments that stand on their own, reframes the speaker to vertical, adds captions and lets you schedule the results. On annual Pro, one credit is one minute of source footage at 4.83 cents, so a 45-minute episode costs about $2.17 to process and an hour-long webinar about $2.90. No editor works for that.
The quality depends on the source. Clean single-speaker recordings with clear topic changes produce the most usable clips; two people talking over each other produce fewer keepers, and independent testers report roughly half as many. Budget your review time accordingly.
Where the value falls apart is Starter. It is $15 a month for 150 credits, sold monthly only, which is 10 cents a minute against 4.83 on annual Pro. A year of Starter costs $180; a year of Pro costs $174 for twice the minutes plus B-roll, more aspect ratios and the scheduler. If you will use it for more than two months, skip Starter. Our Opus Clip pricing breakdown goes through every pack.
Can Opus Clip make ads
OpusClip itself makes ads the way it makes any clip: from a video you give it. Its advertisers page asks you to drop a video link and returns ad variants cut from your long-form footage. If you have a strong recorded demo or a founder talk, that works well and costs very little.
If you have no footage, OpusClip has nothing to cut. The company answer is Agent Opus, a separate generator sold on its own pricing page that shares the same credit balance. It builds new video from a brief, from up to eight reference images through Assets to Ads, or from an article or web page. It is metered per second of finished video: 1 credit a second on Standard, 3 on Standard+, 7 on Premium and 12 on Ultra, with character dialogue and lip sync only on the two top tiers. A 30-second Premium ad is 210 credits, about $20.30 at the monthly Pro rate, and edits and retries are charged again.
So the honest answer is two answers. Clipping ads out of footage you own: cheap and good. Generating a talking UGC-style ad from nothing: possible through Agent Opus, but priced per second at rates that add up fast once you count retries.
The annual plan changed in late September
Until mid September 2026, the pricing page said annual Pro gave all 3,600 minutes instantly, valid for 13 months. That was a real advantage for podcasters who batch-process a back catalogue in one weekend. Snapshots from 28 September show the new rule: annual credits arrive 300 a month and roll over for two extra months, while monthly credits roll over for one.
The price did not change. The shape of what you buy did. If your plan was to import a year of recordings on day one, annual Pro no longer lets you do that; you would need more packs, which on the monthly cycle stop at 5 ($145 for 1,500 credits) and on annual go to 15 ($2,610 a year for 4,500 a month).
OpusClip help centre still has an older article saying yearly credits arrive in full on purchase. The newer Agent Opus FAQ says they arrive monthly. Go by the pricing page and check your balance on day one after buying.
Billing, refunds and what happens when you stop paying
The terms say subscriptions renew automatically at the then-current non-promotional rate, you must cancel before the end of the term, and there are no prorated refunds. Changes take effect at the next billing cycle and there is no pause option. A yearly Pro plan cannot be downgraded to Starter; you cancel and buy again.
There is one narrow refund worth knowing: a Pro user can get the credits back for a project within 14 days of upload if no clip from it was downloaded. Deleting a project does not return credits.
The clause that drives most of the one-star reviews is what happens after a plan lapses. The help centre warns that after 3 days your projects are no longer accessible, and several Trustpilot reviewers describe losing access to work while paid credits remained. Download everything you want to keep before a renewal date you do not intend to pay, and read the reminder dates on your account page.
Who owns the clips and what OpusClip may do with your uploads
Paid plans are licensed for commercial use; the free plan is limited to personal, non-commercial use in the terms, so a brand should not run ads cut on the free tier. Your ownership of what you upload is not affected. In return you grant OpusClip a royalty-free, perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide and sublicensable licence scoped to operating the service, and public submissions and feedback may be used in its marketing.
The terms do not contain an explicit clause on who owns the outputs. In practice the clips are cut from your own footage, so the underlying content is yours, but an agency that must warrant ownership to a client should note the gap, the same one we found in the AdCreative.ai self-serve terms.
The contracting company is Opusclip Inc., a Delaware corporation in Mountain View, California. Disputes go to JAMS arbitration in San Francisco County under California law, with a class-action waiver and a 30-day opt-out.
Where OpusClip beats us outright, and you should buy it instead
If you have long-form video, buy OpusClip. We do not clip footage at all, and it turns an hour of recording into a week of posts for a few dollars.
If you want the same clip in 9:16, 1:1 and 16:9, OpusClip Pro exports all three and we make 9:16 only.
If you want to schedule posts across social accounts from the same tool, OpusClip does that on Pro and we do not.
If you need an API, OpusClip Pro includes a beta API capped at 900 credits a month per workspace, plus an MCP connector and Zapier. We have no public API.
Where the comparison turns is the brand with a product and no footage. OpusClip cannot find a moment that was never recorded, and generating one in Agent Opus is priced per second. That is the job AdsGen is built for. For how OpusClip compares with an editor, see Descript vs Opus Clip.
What AdsGen does instead, including what it will not do
You paste a product URL. We read the page for the product, its claims and its images, write UGC-style scripts with several different hooks and angles, and return finished vertical video ads with AI presenters and burned-in captions, ready to upload to TikTok, Meta or Shorts. There is no credit meter and no per-second charge, and you see the output on your own product in the demo before paying.
The limits, stated before you sign up. Output is 9:16 only, with captions burned in, so it suits paid social and not landscape pre-roll. We do not clip existing footage and do not schedule posts. It works from a product URL, so a thin product page gives the model less to work with. The presenters are generated, so they are not customers and must never be presented as testimonials. We have no public API.
Plenty of teams will run both: OpusClip for the podcast and webinar clips, a UGC ad tool for the paid campaigns. Our Opus Clip alternative page lays out that split.
Why teams pick AdsGen
The full UGC video ad, end to end
No footage needed
OpusClip needs a long video to cut. AdsGen starts from a product URL and writes, casts and renders the ad, so a brand with no recordings still gets UGC-style creative.
A plan counted in ads, not seconds
Generated video in Agent Opus is charged per second and again for every retry. AdsGen plans are counted in finished ads, so the tenth variation costs what the first did.
Try it without a card
The demo runs the real engine on a product URL you paste. You see ads for your own product before you choose a plan.
